Summer is here! That means longer days, vacations, and trying not to melt in anything beyond a swimsuit and flip-flops. That’s easy enough for weekends, but what about those long weekdays at the office? Try these four easy ways to stay cool and stylish this summer while maintaining your A+ professional presence!
- Get a Pedicure: I always advise my clients to be careful of showing too much of their bare feet at the office. But if you do elect to show some toes or skin, ensure you have a great pedicure with trim nails and smooth heels. (This goes for you guys, too, when you wear sandals and flip-flops on the weekend.) For under $20 you can pamper yourself and look great all at the same time! Select a great summer polish that complements your skin tone.
- Summer Haircut and/or Color: I just gave my dog a summer haircut and he is so happy and cool. That’s because a new length or color can do amazing things for how you look and feel! Men, shorten up the sides and back for a fresh look. Ladies, lighten your color or add a few highlights to brighten your look. And how about adding a great-looking ponytail to your style rotation, which also saves on blow-drying time and heat damage!
- Wear Your Brightest and Lightest Shades of Color: Summer means lightening up and brightening up your wardrobe, and the first place to play is your go-to dark suit. You just mix and match the pieces! Men can add a checkered shirt in royal blue and white, or select a crisp white shirt with a light pastel tie. Women can add a nice cotton T-shirt with a bold-color necklace. Women can also pair that same dark skirt with a linen blazer, or use the dark blazer and pair it with a great pair of white jeans or slacks (depending on your dress code guidelines).
- Blazers: It’s hot outside, but the office air conditioning may have you reaching for outerwear! Good thing, because there’s no easier way to elevate your work wardrobe than by pulling on a chic blazer. Its clean-cut lapels and sharp shoulders elegantly frame the upper body, while the slim fit flatters the waist. A lighter weight wool gabardine or a polished cotton or linen are all great options for summer. (Pictured: Brooks Brothers Three-Button Sport Coat in 100% cotton, $208.)
